Born November 3, 1979 in Minneola, NY, the oldest of three sons, was destined to be an artist. As a child he took a liking to cartoons and animation and began drawing some of his favorites, including: Tom and Jerry, Woody Wood Pecker, the Simpson’s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and numerous comic book super heroes, as well as anything else that tickled his fancy.
His childhood included several relocations with his family and always feeling like the outsider looking in, he finally honed his skills in the classes of elementary and high school art; and as much as he liked them, he was never quite satisfied with the programs in their entirety. It wasn’t until graduating high school that Matt really discovered his true self as an artist when he attended Cincinnati Academy of Design and graduated in August of 2000. It was there he was taught the basics of painting, illustration, design, marker renderings, color, composition, art direction, computer graphic applications, award winning ad campaigns and advertising as a whole for the commercial art based world.
Upon graduating from Cincinnati Academy of Design, Matt went nearly a year interviewing in the greater Cincinnati area for his first job in advertising. He had no luck. It was then that he applied to a major retouching studio in Chicago, one he had visited once before on a class spring break trip. A few resumes, phone calls and emails later, he landed his first big break at Seven World Wide, Inc. in 2001, as an apprentice retoucher and production artist with some of the best artists in the trade.
Since then Matt has gone through the ups and downs, and like many in the advertising world, he has been unemployed a few times, freelanced, pulled all nighters, raked in fat checks and challenged himself more than he thought he ever could. He still resides in Chicago today and is a Photoshop retouch artist and production artist, working with numerous creatives and artists alike, loving every minute of it in an agency atmosphere.
Primarily, Matt is an artist of oils, gouache, spray paints, pencils, markers, photography, digital art (adobe cs), mixed mediums, and abroad.
His style and preferred mediums range from portraits, religious overtone, urban, comic book, photo illustrations, digital illustration, simple sketching of pencil and charcoal, on canvas, clayboard and even down to skateboards.
His hobbies and interests include painting, illustration, photography, film, screenplay/graphic novel writing, cooking and comic books.
